Please note that applicants for the 2022 course must be at least 19 years of age at January 1st 2022.

Applications close Friday 01st October, 5pm.

Step One:

Fill out our online application form, providing where prompted:

  • An introduction to who you are and your broad interests.

  • An artistic statement outlining your practice; your interest in training and your aspirations.

  • A brief overview of you previous experience in the arts.

  • A pithy list of plays; films; literature and art that you especially enjoy.

  • A statement about the last live performance you saw.

  • A statement about a film director’s work you admire and why.

Step Two:

If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend an interview and audition-style workshop. This interview must happen in person at our Auckland studios for applicants to be considered. This part of the process will occur in October 2021, with specific dates sent to you on invitation.

The Interview:

All interviews for the 2022 course will occur at The Actors’ Program studios in Auckland. The interview will be an opportunity to for us to discover more about you as a practitioner, and your desire to train as a director of performance. This will be with our specially selected panel.

The Workshop:

On invitation, you will receive two scenes from differing scripts. You will be asked to prepare ONE scene to work on - research and prep the scene in any way you like. On the day you will be given 90mins to work with professional actors (provided by us). The first 40-50mins you will work with the actors alone. You will then be observed working for the remaining time. We are most interested in seeing your interaction with actors as you work towards sculpting their performance. This is a chance to experience your unique working skills so we can discover how best to tailor the course to your needs.  Further details will be provided in response to your application form.

Step Three:

You will be notified as to whether your audition has been successful within a week of the interviews. You may be asked to return for a follow-up interview if we require further information. This may be over Skype or FaceTime for those from outside of Auckland.

Your place on the course will then be confirmed by paying the 10% deposit by November 2021.

Application Fee:

Step One: $50. Payable at the time of submitting an application form. (Includes GST)

Step Two: $70. Payable on invitation to the audition weekend. (Includes GST)

What is this fee for?

The first stage of this fee covers processing and administration of your application form. The forms will be read by industry professionals, and short feedback will be provided should your application be unsuccessful at this stage.

The second part of the application fee is only payable if invited to interview. This fee covers payment for the professional actors you’ll work with, the interview panel, and the feedback that you’ll receive following the interview day.
