The Program

The Directors’ Program is a hands-on, individualised, ‘door to the industry’ course for those committed to broadening their knowledge and skill in the craft of directing actors for performance on both stage and screen.

Challenging, exacting, and aligned to current practice in the industry, this intense one - year course works in tandem with the The Actors’ Program to provide a unique insight into the inner workings of the actor. Trainee directors receive tuition and mentorship from the country’s leading industry professionals and build up a comprehensive set of craft tools.

A maximum of two highly motivated practitioners will be selected to train in directing performance. They will work across four terms, five days a week, with a specially curated timetable of practical, observational and tutorial based classes. Every class is focused on practical outcomes. No grades, no essays, just craft.

As a tool-box generator, the course will cover a focused selection of methods and styles across stage and screen, running concurrently with practical workshops directing professional actors.

The directors in training have the opportunity to implement their broadened skills in an open rehearsal of a full-length theatre text, as well as in the producing, shooting and presentation of a short screen project.

The only course of its kind in the country, The Directors’ Program is committed to supporting, nurturing and inspiring directors in the building blocks of structure, performance and storytelling.
